Overnight search operation continues in South Kashmir town

Anantnag, May 16, KNT: People in Lal Chowk and its adjacent areas spent whole night under sky after combined forces launched a cordon and search operation in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district which is still in progress.

Official sources told News Agency KNT that after receiving inputs about the presence of LeT Commander and his associate, soldiers form 1st Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force and Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off Mehman Mohall area in Lal Chowk. The cordon was extended to other areas including Dangarpora, Lal Chowk and Kotwal Gali.

Sources added that search operation started at around 12 of Friday night and it was still in progress when this report was being filed.

Sources said that people were asked to come out and thorough searches were made inside the houses.

Over a year ago, two militants were killed in an encounter at Mehman Mohall in Lal Chowk Anantnag. That encounter had broken out after a gap of almost two decades in the town in the house of one Tariq Ahmed Khan.

Khan shortly after that encounter disappeared and joined militant out Lashkar-e-Taiba.

If sources are to be believed, soldiers had received inputs that the same Tariq Ahmed Khan along with his aide is present in the area.(KNT)
