After exchanging fire with soldiers, militants escape from village, search in progress

Kulgam, May 14, KNT: Militants after exchanging fire with the government forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have managed to escape from the spot. In this regard, police have registered an FIR against unknown persons.

During the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, government forces received inputs about the presence of militants in Yamrach village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Soldiers from 34 Rashtriya Rifles and 188 Battalion CRPF cordoned off the village and started a search operation.

“The militants fired indiscriminately on combined forces after contact as established. There was an exchange of fire between militants and soldiers for some time, after which militants took advantage of darkness and escaped from the village,” a police official told KNT adding that search is still in progress in adjacent villages of Yamrach.

He added that an FIR has been registered at Police Staion Yaripora in this regard. (KNT)
