Ganderbal, May 29, KNT: A Ganderbal family has filed a police complaint against a doctor for ‘harassing’ and ‘forcibly’ taken a Pharmacist into a quarantine centre from his medical shop.

Reyaz Ahmed, the brother of Pharmacist Niyaz Ahmed who runs a medical shop at Manigam Ganderbal here in Central Kashmir in his police complaint at police station Lar has said that Doctor Shahid-ul-Islam barged into the medical shop of his brother and forcibly quarantined him for 4 hours in a quarantine centre, even not allowing him to contact his family over phone.

Reyaz Ahmed told news agency KNT that the behavior of Doctor Shahid shocked everyone. “The doctor asked my brother that he has received information from Chief Medical Officer and Block Medical Officer Anantnag that he (my brother) has recently come into the contact of a positive patient from Anantnag and he has to be quarantined. When my brother told him that he will inform the family on phone, the doctor refused and forcibly put him into ambulance and kept him in a nearby quarantine centre for 4 hours. He was released from quarantine centre at around 6:30 of Thursday evening,” Reyaz Ahmed said.

“If my brother has come into the contact of a positive patient from Anantnag, why then his house was not sanitized and his family members not quarantined. My brother takes lunch with other shopkeepers on daily basis and why they were not quarantined then. It was a sheer harassment. My brother had not committed any crime that he was even not allowed to use his phone to inform his family. This doctor behaved like a dictator and didn’t listen to anyone,” he said.

Reyaz Ahmed said that the doctor didn’t follow any procedure. “Why my brother was forcibly quarantined and then released and why police was not informed beforehand,” he questioned.

Reyaz Ahmed claimed that he called CMO and BMO Anantnag who feigned ignorance about the matter and said they never informed any doctor from Ganderbal to quarantine a Pharmacist.

“I want to know who gave this doctor the authority to harass my brother and quarantine him at his will and why this doctor didn’t touch the contacts of my brother. Even if my brother was a Covid-19 suspect, why the doctor didn’t arrive with a team to sanitize the shop and adjacent area,” he questioned.

He claimed that the said doctor is habitual of harassing people. “Before this incident, this doctor also targeted the owner of ‘Harmukh’ medical shop and labeled him as Covid-19 suspect. A police complaint against him already stands registered at police station Kangan and now I filed a complaint against him at police station Lar,” Reyaz Ahmed, who hails from Durpora Manigam said.

SHO Lar Arshid Ahmed confirmed that they received a police complaint against the doctor. He said matter is being investigated.

Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, Dr Mehrajuddin told KNT that the said doctor is a part of Surveillance Team in the area. “We allowed the Pharmacist to go home and asked him to quarantine himself if he develops symptoms. We had received information that he had come into contact with a positive patient hailing from Anantnag,” he said adding that instead of boarding the ambulance, the Pharmacist had desired to visit the quarantine centre in his personal vehicle, which annoyed the doctor.
