Pertinently, couple of days back, suspected militants shot at one Akash Mehra inside his eatery shop in Sonwar area of Srinagar. Mehra sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.

The incident had occurred when foreign diplomats were on Kashmir visit.

“We were all busy with the diplomats and our focus was on Grand Lalit Hotel where these diplomats were staying. Militants tried to give a message that they can strike even in safe areas. The incident sent shock waves among tourists. Krishna Dhaba was on the target of militants because it remains open during strike days and tourists enjoy food at this Dhaba in large number,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told media personnel during a press conference today.

While divulging information about the incident, Kumar as per news agency KNT said that three persons alighted from a motor bike outside Krishna Dhaba. “Two went inside and fired upon the shop owner at point black range through pistol. After that all the three fled from the spot,” he said.

“SP South received a phone call wherein the caller said that the crime was committed by three bikers. We checked CCTV footage and after whole night exercise identified the culprits. We called the parents of the one who was the owner of the bike. They admitted that their son has left the bike at home and has run away. With the help of the parents we put his phone on surveillance.”

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the biker switched off his phone near Pampore area but called from another phone to one of his relatives informing he is moving towards Pahalgam. “Srinagar and Anantnag police in a swift action arrested the duo and during on spot interrogation they confessed the crime and revealed that one more person from Pulwama was accompanying them. Accordingly, Pulwama police arrested that accused. The trio confessed everything. We recovered the weapon of crime and even seized the bike,” he said.
