Restriction movement of people undemocratic: ANC over President’s visit

Srinagar, July 27, KNT: Awami National Conference Tuesday castigated government for forcing people to live indoors on the arrival of Indian President Ramnath Kovind.

The party said that it is unfortunate that people living in Dalgate and adjacent areas were subjected to humiliation and didn’t allow to commute freely.

“Government has cordoned off Dalgate Boulevard, Chashmashahi, Nishat, Brain, Shalimar, Harwan and other areas as if there is war like situation,” party general secretary Advocate Mir Muhammad Shafi said in a statement.

He said much against the wished of the people and to their inconvenience, government forces have taken over tourist hub, Boulevard, making it out of bounds for people.

“Restrictions on traffic movement from Dalgate towards SKICC, caused “great inconvenience” to tourists. Tour operators lamented that tour itinerary of holidaymakers, especially ones staying in houseboats and hotels on Boulevard Road was badly affected.”

He said plans of tourist to go around Dal Lake and visit Mughal Gardens have got disturbed. From past few days, the Boulevard Road is out of bounds for tourists,” Mir said.

He lamented that natives are being humiliated day in and day and such measures are badly hitting the business of people. (KNT)
