Srinagar, Dec 22,KNT: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Tuesday won the District Development Council (DDC) elections from the Pulwama-I constituency by 1008 votes. He got 1322 votes against Sajad Ahmad Raina of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who got 314 votes.

Few days after he filed his nomination, he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on 25 November. Earlier when New Delhi abrogated Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on 5 August 2019, Parra was arrested for six months. This year, the NIA has accused him of links to a high-profile militancy case that also involves a Deputy Superintendent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Davinder Singh.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti termed the arrest of Waheed Parra as Political Vendetta by New Delhi, and vouched for his innocence in the case, earlier while taking on to her official Twitter handle Mehbooba Mufti wrote, “Waheed has no connection whatsoever with this man & is being falsely charged. All just to blackmail & intimidate PDP & other mainstream political parties in J&K.”

While pinning hopes on Justice, The PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, while congratulating Waheed Para on winning the DDC Elections wrote on her Twitter handle, “Couldn’t be prouder of PDPs @parawahid who won his maiden election by a huge margin of votes. Despite being arrested on baseless charges right after filing his nomination people have shown their love & trust for Waheed. Hope justice prevails.”(KNT)
