Srinagar, Sep 23, KNT: People are accusing Roads and Building Department of being selective in road macadamization process. People from different areas are alleging that selective roads and the lanes of those where influential people reside are being macadamized.

R&B Department is quick to macadamize lanes where people in power corridors reside but the same department comes up with lame excuses when common people demand macadamization of their lanes and roads.

“The bund from Ram Bagh to Tengapora was fully macadamized but the opposite bund from Ram Bagh to Mehjoor Nagar- Padshahi Bagh road was left out and instead of black topping, potholes were filled with dust and soil, making this road more uncomfortable for the commuters.”

Chief Engineer R&B, Showkat Jeelani Pandit told KNT that they are unable to macadamize Ram Bagh-Mehjoor Nagar road as ERA is planning to construct a deep drain from Kadlabal-Lasjan up to Mehjoor Nagar.

When one looks at the condition of roads, we find, barring the heart of Srinagar-city and adjacent roads, the roads across Kashmir Valley are in shambles and need black topping.

When KNT asked netizens to mention the roads which have not been macadamized yet, the response was huge and people living in length and breadth of Kashmir accused R&B of double standard.

“Where is the development and why selected roads are being macadamized only,” said a netizen seeking the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

There is a long list of roads that have not been macadamized for years together in Kashmir Valley. Some of these are Diyarwani Batamaloo road, Chattabal Veer road, Lasjan to Kadalbal Pampore road, Sempora Zaffron Colony up to Khanmoh Srinagar, Zakura to Teilbal road, Dr Ali Jan road Sakidafar to Soura road, Bilal Masjid Alamgari Bazar, Shaar Khrew to Ladhoo, Khan Colony Chanapora, Shalimar-Teilbal Batapora road, Rangpora-Elahibagh road, Reshi Nagar to Narwaw Shopian road, Manzimpora-Imamsahab Shopian road.

In Zainagir Tehsil of Sopore, Watlab to Tujjar Sharif road is completely in shambles. This road is crucial and provides economic stability to apple industry of Sopore, as it connects three districts of Badipora, Baramulla and Kupwara. Same is the condition of Haigam-Tarzoo Sopore road. Only dust, potholes and mud can be seen on this road. (KNT)
