Srinagar, July 15, KNT: Much to the discomfiture of commuters, Srinagar roads are in shambles from past two years while administration has miserably failed to black top the dilapidated roads.

Roads across Srinagar city are presenting a pathetic look, carving for official attention.

Except the stretch from Dalgate to Civil Secretariat, roads everywhere present grim picture. It really gets difficult for the commuters even in this lockdown to pass by these roads.

The road from Rambagh to Padshahi Bagh is in shambles and same are the condition of other roads. “Natipora, Nowgam, Barzaulla, Batamaloo, Karsoo, Brari Pora, Tarbal, Safa Kadal, Sekidafar have completely been ignored and are giving tough time to commuters,” said a commuter to KNT.

“This is the right time for black topping keeping the weather conditions of Kashmir into consideration. Temperatures right now are perfect for macadaminzation. In some areas like Nishat and Shalimar, R&B Department has undertaken the process of black topping but this process has not reached into the heart of city yet,” said another commuter.

Authorities are not bothering to repair the damaged road in Mehjoor Nagar. Same can be seen in other localities where the roads are filled with huge potholes.

In Srinagar’s old city, the roads appear to have been repaired ages ago. Though, there have certain spots where the roads were repaired, but those repairs did not last long.

The road from Kak Sarai from Chhatabal which leads to Qamarwari is also in a bad condition. Big pot holes filled with water can be seen in the middle of the road, making commuting a daring job.

Chief Engineer Roads and Buildings Department Muhammad Sami told KNT that dilapidated roads will be macadamized and potholes and critical spots will also be repaired. (KNT)
